In 1st Recon you performed at a very high level of proficiency. Or you Died...
The Recon Marines in Vietnam had one of the most difficult dangerous assigment in Vietnam. Making perilous helicopter inserts deep in enemy control territory.
Risked their lives every day in small teams, never knowing whether they would live to see the next day.

His eyes seem to be searching for me. This moment was an eternity for me on that day. Then the enemy moved off. Pasting me by with packs on their backs, their weapons shouldered, carrying heavy arms and equipment.
Fifty or sixty NVA passed me by that day 8000 miles away on that winding trail.
This moment of 5 to 6 minutes was an eternity for me.
To all my brothers with painted faces. What a somber place it seems to be looking back at that time in Nam.
My mind wandered back today to that place "Not a shot was fired" not one shot.
I do thank my brother’s with painted faces from Company B.
All my children and grandchildren also thank you.
Not a shot was fired that day.
To all the winding trails in Nam you will read the stores of the Recon Marines!
