Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am that swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die. |

My father's Burial will be at
Fort Snelling National Cemetery
|
We will be meeting inside the main gate at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 7601 34th Ave South Minneapolis, MN 55450 around 1:15-1:30 pm April 20th, 2023. We have been assigned assembly area 2 please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the service in that assembly area. Our Cemetery Representative will meet us in Assembly Area 2. From the Assembly Area, we will follow (driving) behind our Cemetery Representative to the shelter area, where Floyd Sr's service will take place. Shelters have roofs, but no walls; please dress accordingly. It will be cold and possibly raining. The National Cemetery asks that we arrive 15 minutes early (1:45pm), please do not pull into the Assembly Area more than 20 minutes early. We do not want you to get mixed in with another service. If you're running late and you need a shortcut to Assembly Area 2: please drive past the Main Gate and enter through GATE 2. Once you’ve entered the cemetery, you will see Assembly Area signs on your left-hand side. Floyd Sr's service with honors will be at 2pm so don't be late. Looks like it will rain so bring your umbrellas and dress warm. If you’re using navigation to travel to Fort Snelling National Cemetery, please ensure that you search Fort Snelling National Cemetery. If you only search Fort Snelling, you may be directed to a different location. Once we wrap up Floyd Sr's service we'll make our way over to the gravesite in section 26 grave number 1385 . I will be placing the balance of the flowers on Floyd and Norma's grave. Once we wrap up at the cemetery you're all welcome to join us at Carbone's Pizzeria Bar & Grill at 55 Wentworth Ave E in West St. Paul, MN 55118 about 10 miles from the cemetery.

April 2023
Recon Marines, Marines, friends of Marines,
We traveled to Vietnam in March 2023 with Vietnam Battlefield Tours. We visited the site of Camp Reasoner and can report that the Reasoner Sign and Guard Shack remain in good shape on the north side of what was Division road ,north side of Hill 327.
As usual, one had to know where to look, as the undergrowth had grown over top of both sign and shack. With that said, the new item was a 4 ft high chain link fence around each structure with cement fence post. Must have been a covid period addition. Undergrowth growing directly over it.
Directly behind the sign and guard shark [ 10 feet] the downhill side that was Camp Reasoner has been excavated vertically dropping off a straight 500 feet and all the land that was Camp Reasoner has been hauled away. From where LZ 401 was back to the now vertical cliff is now a large rock quarry lake at least as large as Camp Reasoner in is footprint. We named the lake, “Lake Reasoner”.
A few photos attached.

Camp Reasoner concrete sign |

What a reward awaited me when I arrived there. The original guard shack at the entrance to Camp Reasoner is perfectly preserved, and a few meters away from it was the camp’s concrete sign replete with the USMC insignia hand carved and painted on it. Both objects have chain link fences around them. Someone is protecting and preserving this site. As it turns out, a group of 3rd Recon Battalion Marines in the US is petitioning to arrange for the transfer of the gate and shack to USMC Camp Pendleton in California, to bring them home. Ideally, they’ll be able to do so. It’s rare that such objects, especially those with US armed forces markings on them, survive the years in Vietnam.

The lazy days of summer
Do you remember those lazy summer days of the 50's & 60's when all was right with the world...
Memory... is the diary that we all carry about with us. ~Oscar Wilde, "The Importance of Being Earnest"
Pleasure is the flower that passes; remembrance, the lasting perfume. ~Jean de Boufflers
I have memories - but only a fool stores his past in the future. ~David Gerrold
It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life. ~P.D. James
A happy childhood can't be cured. Mine'll hang around my neck like a rainbow, that's all, instead of a noose. ~Hortense Calisher, Queenie, 1971
Everybody needs his memories. They keep the wolf of insignificance from the door. ~Saul Bellow
Memory itself is an internal rumour. ~George Santayana, The Life of Reason
A childhood is what anyone wants to remember of it. It leaves behind no fossils, except perhaps in fiction. ~Carol Shields
It is singular how soon we lose the impression of what ceases to be constantly before us. A year impairs, a luster obliterates. There is little distinct left without an effort of memory, then indeed the lights are rekindled for a moment - but who can be sure that the Imagination is not the torch-bearer? ~Lord Byron
